Roofing Sealing

There are several different types of commercial roof coating including aluminum coating and asphalt emulsions and cutback roof coatings.

Aluminum roof coatingAluminum Roofs

Aluminum roof coating is a reflective top coating processed from high quality asphalt and fortified with pure aluminum flakes. It is designed to protect and preserve a roof by reducing the surface temperature. There are many benefits to using aluminum roof coating. To name a few, it reflects more than 80% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays, insulates, increases roof’s life expectancy and makes the roof more aesthetically pleasing.

The sun is a harmful enemy of any roof; its rays dry out the preservative oils and asphalts in ordinary roofing materials.

Aluminum roof coatingAluminum roof coating reflects a majority of the destructive rays. By deflecting the sun’s rays, the aluminum layers aid in preventing roof asphalt from drying out and cracking.

EPDM Rubber RoofRubber Roofs

Rubber roofs, known in the roofing industry as Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) which is simply a product consisting of three distinct monomers is a black rubber roof that is manufactured by the tire companies; such as Carlisle, Good Year, Firestone, etc.

Quality Seal Roofing, Corp. is certified in applying and repairing rubber roofs, but specializes in and recommends TPO application. Rubber roofs are thin and most commonly single-ply. Rubber roofs have been known to not fuse well together with piping, residing HVAC units, chimneys, and stack lines. All pose an additional threat to the integrity of your rubber roof. These are the areas where you are most likely to see leaks later on and will have to be resealed. Rubber roofs are also known to expand and shrink as your building does. While there are some disadvantages, rubber roofs tend to be less costly and are also environmentally friendly as most are made out of recycled materials.

Installation of rubber roofs can be by mechanical fastening, full adherence or ballasting. Rubber roofs can be reusable if they are mechanically applied or ballasted. The average lifespan of a white rubber roof is 20 years. Due to the sun’s harmful Ultra Violet rays, the black membranes do not tend to weather the “elements” as well.

Quality Seal Roofing, Corp. has the experience in both TPO and rubber roofs and is happy to recommend and explain which roof option would be best for your specific roof repair or replacement. Call today and we will come out to give you a free estimate!
